MORE ABOUT SALSA
Salsa Ceilidh grew on the side of Nick's experience of dancing ordinary kinds of salsa. To enjoy the variety and get more dances, Nick has learnt all the styles he can! As well as the three main styles of salsa around in the UK, and the traditional Son of Cuba and creation of Salsa Ceilidh that feature on this website, there have been Cuban (Casino style and the Cuban circle dance Rueda de Casino), and so-called On1 (or LA style) and On2 (New York or Mambo style). He also enjoys the simple Latino social and party way of dancing, and the eclectic "messing about salsa" that is useful in Latino clubs found in every UK city (where several other kinds of Latino music and dance will also be played other than salsa).
Because all that can be as confusing to a new comer as it sounds, Nick has tried to explain the differences as clearly as possible - click here for Salsa Explained. Because the world of salsa and salsa classes is never going to be organised and standardised, a new comer will also not have much indication of what kind and quality of classes there are to choose from and to judge what's best for them.
Nick wrote the general welcome to newcomers on the Salsaholics website. Nick also set a benchmark drawn from one "classy class" he attends. This is a list of what made that a classy class with the aim of allowing people to compare and contrast other classy classes. Other classes may then be found to be just as classy, or classy or more classy in different ways, or (of course) they may be less classy too. All of these have their place in the rich and multifarious world of salsa! Read Classy Classes here.
