SIMPLEST SALSA CEILIDH
or THE HAVANA HOW D'YE DO
The simplest Salsa Ceilidh has a dozen sets of 8 bar sequences
that can be repeated or put in any order.
I've called it Havana How D'Ye Do (HHDD) but you can call it what you like! I couple together sets of patterns for any event or dance and then make up new names suitable to that occasion. So why don't you?!
AIMS of the Simplest Salsa Ceilidh:
> As simple as possible
> with good slow music
> and no matter if women are Leads and men Followers, so that
> all can join in, complete novices too and those who would not do salsa, since
> the caller calls the moves during the dance (like ceilidh), so
> nobody has to learn or remember them, and
> slow means people can enjoy the music and body movement more, and
> everyone of all levels of ability can have fun, warm up, and socialise, while
> the open circle and figures contain any mistakes, and
> the flow and fun continues even if people step on the wrong beats, plus
> “progressive” changing of partners allows meeting lots of people;
> based on “school dance” steps & walking, it is easier than normal Salsa,
> but dancers end up learning basic Cuban Salsa and Rueda de Casino without realising it.
HHDD has been choreographed and developed by Nick Child, but it is not copyright. Please feel free to use Salsa Ceilidh, to improve it, and let us know on the blog page here.
This Simplest HHDD is not the whole of Salsa Ceilidh. There are many other faster and more complicated dances adapting other Scottish Country Dances to be danced to Cuban music and which can also become new moves in normal Rueda de Casino.
