The September Malecon Matinee - our Portobello afternoon attempt to match the Cuban daytime music and dance - was a surprise. Lots of locals including children came along, people who were not from the Salsa scene. Well, we did 4 dances of these simple Salsa Ceilidh patterns, amongst other fun tricks we have up our sleeve! And the (primary school age) kids loved it - they even wanted to get in on our more advanced Rueda de Casino sets. So this was better than we could ever expect and certainly matched the kind of community party the Cubans do so well.
Then, afterwards, a neighbour and friend continued to say how much the kids had enjoyed it and wanted more. So I am now trying, with her help, to work towards an after school Salsa Ceilidh club! It's always been one of my visions, that I never expected to achieve to get kids interested.
