The World Premiere!
SALSA CEILIDH
. . . the classless way . . .
This World Premiere SALSA CEILIDH was held on Friday 9th October 2009. It was a great sell out success raising both fun and funds for the local campaign who had asked for it!

PONGS is a local campaign, short for "Portobello Opposes New Garbage Site". They asked for a Salsa Ceilidh as one of the fundraising events. The Salsa Ceilidh on Friday 9th October in Portobello Community Centre raised over £1200! Wow, and thanks again to everyone for that. Check out the rest of this Salsa Ceilidh website for more about it and Nick, its creator and host on the 9th October. This was the first time a full "course" of Salsa Ceilidh had been done in one evening. Experienced teachers came to "steal" it for their own use. Beginners find it such easy fun that you don't realise you're learning to dance like a Cuban in one evening! Experienced salsa dancers enjoyed the slow repeating patterns because they allow other pleasures in - click here for more on that. For a particular event, Nick makes up spoof titles for the dances in line with the theme of the event and inspired by Scottish Ceilidh dance titles. That's his efforts on the right for the PONGS event. The poll helped select the final names. For reference and inspiration here are some standard Scottish dance names, click here. |
